There’s everything here from a pub you can walk to from the farm, up to Angela Hartnett’s kitchen in the New Forest. Dogs are welcome at most of the pubs on this list, it’s that sort of country.

The Woodfalls Inn (Walkable from the farm)

The closest plate of food to the farm, and you can walk home afterwards. A proper country pub kitchen on the northern edge of the Forest: pub classics done well, local ales, and no taxi to organise at the end of the night. That matters more than you’d think.
The Goat at Downton (7 minute drive)
British pub food · ££ · Google 4.6, Tripadvisor 4.1
A 13th century village inn that’s come back to life under new owners, and the reviews have followed. Hearty classics, proper Sunday roasts, live music some nights and a garden with a firepit. CAMRA rate it too, which tells you the beer is looked after as well as the food.
The Kings Head at Whiteparish (10 minute drive)
British pub food · ££ · Google 4.7, Tripadvisor 4.6
An early 1600s coaching house with a genuinely food led menu: gourmet pies, fillet steak, and a Sunday roast people drive out for. The best scores of anywhere this close to the farm, and if the evening goes well there are eight rooms upstairs. It’s on our accommodation list for a reason.
The Rockingham Arms (14 minute drive)
British gastropub · ££ · Google 4.7, Tripadvisor 4.4
An 1840s village pub on the edge of Canada Common, with the garden backing straight onto it. New owners took it on in 2026 and are turning it back into a proper local: home cooked food, real ales, dog walkers everywhere. Ring ahead to check the kitchen, they’re still settling in.
The Cartwheel Inn, Whitsbury (15 minute drive)
Modern British · ££ to £££ · Google 4.8, Tripadvisor 5.0
The nearest genuinely impressive kitchen to the farm. A village pub up by the Whitsbury racing gallops doing modern twists on British classics: gin cured salmon, scallops with black pudding, serious roasts. Top of the local Tripadvisor rankings and calls itself the best gastropub in the New Forest. On current form, that’s not far off.
The Yew Tree Inn, Odstock (15 minute drive)

A thatched village pub just south of Salisbury with a strong food reputation: praised pies, proper roasts, attentive service. Kitchen runs Wednesday to Saturday plus Sunday lunch, so check the day before you set off.
The Silver Plough, Pitton (18 minute drive)
British gastropub · ££ · Google 4.6
A rural village pub east of Salisbury that takes its food seriously: homemade bread and soups, award winning cooking, log fires in winter. The sort of place you take someone when you want the countryside to do half the talking.
Anokaa, Salisbury (20 minute drive)
Contemporary Indian · ££ to £££ · Google 4.6
Salisbury’s upscale Indian, and one of only a handful of Salisbury restaurants in Hardens. Lighter, modern takes on the classics rather than the standard curry house playbook. Over 1,600 Google reviews landing on 4.6 tells you how consistently it delivers.
Tinga, Salisbury (21 minute drive)

Mexico City street food in the middle of Salisbury, now on the High Street. Independently owned, loud, fun, and the margaritas are the real thing. It held the number one spot in Salisbury for long stretches and still sits near the top. Book ahead, everyone knows about it.
Charlie’s Kitchen, Salisbury (21 minute drive)
Turkish and Mediterranean · ££ · Google 4.7, Tripadvisor 4.9
A family run Turkish restaurant with 30 years of cooking behind it, and right now the top rated restaurant in Salisbury on Tripadvisor. Out of about 183. Mezze, charcoal grill, generous portions, proper Turkish coffee, and the kind of welcome chains can’t fake.
The Chapter House, Salisbury (22 minute drive)
Steakhouse · £££ · Google 4.6, Tripadvisor 4.6
Still one of the best steakhouses in the south west. House dry aged cuts, marinated racks of ribs, and a South African twist: bobotie, Durban curries, and top notch wines from Stellenbosch and the Hemel en Aarde Valley. Tudor building opposite the Cathedral Close. Book at weekends or you won’t get in.
The Great Bustard, Great Durnford (23 minute drive)
Modern British · £££ · Michelin Guide 2026, 2 AA Rosettes
The strongest recent opening near Salisbury. Jordan Taylor, who cooked at Moor Hall, running restaurant grade food inside a refurbished country pub in the Avon valley. Michelin Guide listed, two rosettes, rooms if you want to make an evening of it. This is where we’d send you if you want to see what the area’s new generation can do.
Baroüshka, Salisbury (23 minute drive)
Middle Eastern · ££ · Google 4.5, Tripadvisor 4.5
Lebanese and Moroccan cooking on Fisherton Street: mezze, tagines, charcoal grills, and one of the best vegan selections in the city. Warm room, attentive service, and the complimentary starters and rosewater keep showing up in reviews for a reason.

Indian street food and craft beers near the Cathedral Close: dosas, samosa chaat, plates you won’t find in a standard curry house. A long standing Salisbury favourite with over 800 reviews on each platform saying the same thing. Closed Mondays, Sunday is lunch only.
The Three Tuns, Romsey (25 minute drive)
British gastropub · ££ · Google 4.6
A 300 year old pub near Romsey’s Market Square and the town’s best food pub. Locally sourced seasonal menu, guest ales, and the right choice if you’re staying at the White Horse across town and want dinner somewhere with a bit more character.
Hartnett Holder & Co at Lime Wood (28 minute drive)
Italian influenced · ££££ · Michelin Guide 2026, 3 AA Rosettes
Angela Hartnett’s kitchen in the New Forest, run with Luke Holder inside the five star Lime Wood hotel. Italian thinking applied to Forest produce, three rosettes, and the biggest name on this list by a distance. If you’re going to treat yourself or someone you want to impress, this is the one.
The Greyhound on the Test, Stockbridge (30 minute drive)
Modern British · £££ · Michelin Guide 2026, 2 AA Rosettes
Run by friends of ours, and the kitchen is worth the drive on its own. Michelin Guide listed, two rosettes, and a menu that leans on the river running past the door: they have their own beat on the Test, so the fish has not travelled far. Anyone who eats here will be very well looked after, we promise you that. Stay the night, it’s on our accommodation list too.
THE PIG, Brockenhurst (30 minute drive)
Kitchen garden British · £££ · Google 4.5, 2 AA Rosettes
The original PIG and the famous 25 mile menu: if it isn’t grown in the kitchen garden or found within 25 miles, it isn’t on the plate. Greenhouse dining room, garden tours, and a table that books out weeks ahead, so plan this one rather than chance it. Worth the planning.
